After an eight day strike, clerical workers have agreed to a new contract with the terminal operators at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. While this strike was initiated by approximately 800 clerical workers, union longshoremen refused to cross the picket line shutting down 10 of the 14 shipping container terminals between the two ports. Port of Long Beach officials estimated that for each day workers were on strike, the movement of $650 million worth of goods was halted. |
