The Metrans Transportation Center has completed research investigating the risks imposed on and recoveries of transportation systems in megacities as a result of extreme events, such as a natural disaster. Researchers quantified the economic impact of these events as well as used modeling and simulation to estimate changes in traffic flow in the region. Using Southern California as a case study, results from this effort identified critical transportation links in the region and showed how the region's economy would be impacted by a disruption. |
