Saving Lives with connectivity: Accelerating V2X Deployment Program Grant Awards - Utah Department of TransportationUtah DOT offers a three-state deployment site (Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming) representing a broad variety of population densities, demographics, jurisdictions, topography, and transportation facilities. The deployment area covers all of Utah, I-80 through the entire length of Wyoming, and major portions of Colorado, including the Denver Metro Area, I-70 from Denver to the Utah border, and I-25 through Colorado. In addition to leveraging significant foundational infrastructure across these states, the project will install RSUs at 450 new signalized intersections and at an additional 300 sites along corridors in Utah and Colorado, equip an additional 20 intersections with VRU detection and warnings, and equip 215 additional vehicles with OBUs. Applications planned for deployment include Connected Intersection Preferential Treatment (CIPT), Spot Weather Impact (SWIW), Curve Speed Warning messages (CSW), Traveler Information Alerts, Vulnerable Road User (VRU) Safety System, Disabled Vehicle Alerts, and Vehicle-based Safety Applications. A few applications will use non-5.9 GHz communications methods, including satellite communications, as developed in Wyoming, and cell communications for tracking some fleet vehicles, specifically UDOT Incident Management trucks and snowplows.
