The Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau released a public use microdata product from the 2012 Commodity Flow Survey (CFS). This new data product is the first microdata product available to the public from the CFS and contains information on approximately 4.5 million shipments reported by businesses in the 2012 CFS. As a complement to the final tabular data released in December 2014, the 2012 CFS public use microdata file provides access to shipment-level characteristics while protecting the confidentiality of individual businesses and their information. Users can create customized tables, perform multivariate analysis, and build models to track and analyze the transportation of commodities. The CFS is the primary source of national and state-level data on domestic freight shipments by American establishments in mining, manufacturing, wholesale, auxiliaries, and selected retail and services trade industries. |
