Cargo counts at the Port of Virginia's facilities, including Newport News, continue to show new signs of growth. The Virginia Port Authority, which operates a number of terminals across Hampton Roads, reported that 220,069 standard 20-foot containers, or TEUs, moved through the port last month. That's a 2.7 percent increase from 214,355 container units posted in August 2014. For the calendar year, the port's TEU volume is 1.70 million, which is 9 percent ahead of the same period last year, and the sixth consecutive month TEU volume exceeded 210,000 units. |
