On May 20, 2016, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has received 212 applications totaling nearly $9.8 billion for grants through the FASTLANE grant program. States and localities have requested over 13 times more funding than what is available. FASTLANE grants will address many of the challenges outlined in the USDOT report Beyond Traffic, including increased congestion on the nation's highways and the need for a strong multimodal transportation system to support the expected growth in freight movement both by ton and value. |
