On July 14, 2016 the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced approximately $1.5 million in grants to support pipeline and excavation damage prevention. The grants will be used to strengthen states efforts in addressing pipeline failures attributing to activities resulting in fatality or injury. Since 2006, excavation damage has resulted in over 33 fatalities costing over $249 million. |
