Despite increases in pay, it is estimated that the trucking industry is short 50,000 drivers. Forecasts of massive jobs losses from autonomous trucks, regulatory changes, and lack of truck parking are all contributing to the shortage. Required electronic logging devices strictly enforces driving times. Parking is not available in urban areas requiring drivers to plan ahead and drive significant distances to reach parking. This reduces drivers delivery time and wastes fuel. More and better parking would increase take home pay and improve working conditions for truck drives which in turn will increase recruitment of drivers. |
