Description |
Capacity was the driving factor in last year's decisions to route domestic freight via rail over dry van. Capacity is no longer an issue for truckload transportation now that all truckload segments have adapted to the use of ELDs. In addition, low diesel prices have removed the cost advantage that rail had over trucks. Currently, the breakeven point on the over the road (OTR)-to-intermodal tradeoff is over 700 miles verse last year's figure of under 650 miles. |
