The Highway Trust Fund is set to expire on October 1, 2020 which leaves little time to get transportation legislation passed, especially during an election year. The current proposed transportation package is for $2 trillion over ten years. This is an increase of $1.25 trillion over the previous ten years. Since the Trust Fund is not expected to run out of money until mid-way through 2021, Congress has the option to do an extension if a new agreement is not in place by October 2020. |
