The United State Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reports that the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry fell 0.7 percent in October 2013 from September 2013. This decrease was driven by decreases in air freight, rail carloads, and trucking. However, year-over-year freight shipments measured by this index were up 5.3 percent in October 2013 over October 2012. |
